friday break

July 25, 2008

Today, from the inspiration of Chez, who shared with us about her embarking on a running lifestyle (10km run with 2k at stake!), I’ve decided to start on doing some training for the upcoming Great Eastern run, since I have to participate in it anyway. I have yet to sign da’s name as well (please remind me!) but my sister and I are finally going to do something new in two-oh-oh-seven. Hooray! So before my last lesson for the week, I was feeling very stressed with parcels of things to do flying all over the place in my mind. I was feeling frustrated - I was rushing to complete my marking, but there was too many distractions. Frowning, I decided (i)pod myself and head for the gym instead. I clocked in 2.4km on the treadmill (which I am sure would be much less out on the open road), did a few crunches, and worked on the stairmaster thing. An achievement for me, for those who know. The major factor now would be to have me do this on a more frequent and consistent basis.

*fingers crossed*

Am giddly excited at the weekend even though I have so much marking to catch up on. I think it must be those endorphins. Or is it too early yet?

My dad is finally going to be home from shanghai today!

Have just decided to go to sungei road for treasure hunting this evening with raph.

Have a good one!

Months (or many years, for some) of non-meetups but the zest was still present, save for a few initial tentative politeness. The sprinkle of comments here and there, the nuances, tiny gestures - same same but different. At twentyseven we’re older yet (non?) wiser in the wackiest sense in society’s eyes: yoga at 7.30, fishing inbetween work life, jumping off to canada just to be, running a never-before-imagined-i-could-do-it marathon. We talk about the huge paper house we made for Dan’s birthday one cold melbourne winter - huddled in an apartment and laughing over tissue paper towels and paper clip hangers.

Today, we’re the same yet different, but we’ll always have the rec room.

It’s grittier, darker, edgier!

[Gush alert!] Christopher Nolan greys the comic book ‘hero’ again with a fabulous Part2 : Tight script, great cast, dark direction and superb acting! I am so captivated by Christian Bale - while Heath undeniably did a great job as Joker, Bale’s understated emotions were, to my opinion, better and oh so controlled. He acted so well! I could continue gushing. Masters of the Sea’s Singaporean Ng Chin Han redeemed himself from that flop of a drama series and wowed me in his meaty role in the film too! I was so so proud. Eric Roberts, Julia Robert’s bro, was also captivating as the mafia baddie. I loved the plot, the twists and turns, the control even in the midst of the continuous action and the psychological layer in the film - for a while I was getting worried at how the 8 year old boy sitting in front of me was taking to the very adult themes on morality. My only gripe? They should have gotten another girl.

same same but different

I’ve never been one who wore jewellery.

That is why having the ring around my finger has been a little unnerving for me, in a will-i-lose-it kinda way. I have already to date, dropped it on the ground and forgotten to take it home on two separate occasions. Raph hates this. Because as he repeatedly reminds me, the ring could have bought him twelve Playstation3 consoles or nine samsung hd television sets.

What’s romance without a little pain, eh?

Work has been extremely hectic so all wedding planning has been left to a standstill for a while. Which is why, i totally agree with Deb! A joint account (that we opened last dec) is such a lifesaver as it helps us keep track of our finances.

Speaking of moneymatters, R also bought a HD Samsung 26inch for his room to fuel his PS3 gaming today.

A uni 0.7 Jetstream in its fluid inky red and black makes my nerdfest day. I went for a fantastic slash inspirational talk today (the best in the many i went to this week) from a man who looks (and sounds!) just like adam sandler at 60. He was wearing a bright red tie with childish drawings on it: a smiling sun and rainbow above some people standing on the globe. He had such a great sense of humour that I was reluctant to leave when it was time for my class. I bounced into class telling my girls about how important it was to not just have booksmarts but wisdom, practicality, adaptability and creativity. I hope I remember to constantly emphasise them in my classes and my life.

Tonight, I’m meeting Jo, LP, Dam and John at Villa Bali for dinner. It’s been a while since I’ve been there, and i’m really looking forward to my weekend!

Have a great one y’all. Gotta scoot off for my last lesson now.
